Mother cross in bronze
WW2 German Cross of Honour of the German Mother (Bronze Grade) – Mutterkreuz in bronze
An original Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter (Cross of Honour of the German Mother) in Gold Grade, awarded during the Third Reich to mothers who bore eight or more children. Instituted by Adolf Hitler on 16 December 1938, the decoration was part of a policy encouraging large Aryan families.
Design: A blue and white enamel Christian cross with gilt sunburst backing. The central medallion features a black swastika encircled by the inscription:
“DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” (To the German Mother).
Ribbon: ribbon in white with blue stripes, designed to be worn around the neck. This example retains part of its original ribbon, showing age and signs of wear.
Grade: bronze Cross, the lowest of three classes (Bronze for 4–5 children, Silver for 6–7, and Gold for 8+ children).
