*"The campaign "Book donation for the German Wehrmacht" was carried out by the War Winter Relief Organization( winterhilfwerk WHW) which was preceded by an appeal by Rosenberg. By 1940, 8 1/2 million books had been collected in this way. By the spring of 1941, 15 1/2 million books had been sent to the fighting front in two collection campaigns."
